The items in the Second Language Proficiency Test (TPLS) are designed to assess the oral and written comprehension of individuals being tested. The types of questions proposed vary from one item to another (multiple choices, associations, etc.), but all items include the same elements:

• general instructions,
• a text (written comprehension) or an audio file (oral comprehension),
• a question,
• a choice of answers.

These components have been carefully developed so that each item measures a specific indicator of skill level.
